Classic Wedge Salad

About every two weeks, I make burgers on the grill. It is one meal that most everyone loves in our family, that is, with the exception of my daughter, which I just learned last night. With that said, I really put some serious thought into how I wanted to design the burger for the evening. My favorite burger is a simple, plain cheeseburger, however I love bacon and blue cheese as well, and as I was leaning towards that route, I decided to keep it simple and stick with my favorite burger.

Class Wedge Salad with Bacon and Blue Cheese Dressing

Realizing that my son’s favorite burger is a plain bacon burger, I knew I was already going to be cooking bacon. As I also arrange a platter for toppings which always include head lettuce, sliced tomatoes, onion, and often times pickles. With all of this said, I was still craving blue cheese and bacon, and that’s when I got the best of both worlds, and still got my burger, along with a classic wedge salad with bacon and blue cheese dressing, and oh yeah, a bit of chopped tomato.

Lets get started.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 head of iceberg lettuce, outer leaves removed, quartered.
  • 4 slices of thick cut bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/3 cup of crumbled blue cheese
  • 1/2 cup of blue cheese dressing
  • 1/2 roma tomato, seeds removed, diced
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Begin by rinsing your lettuce with cold water. If you have a salad spinner, use it, but be gentle as you want the wedges to stay together. Once you have removed the water, place on a plate, and place in the refrigerator to get nice and cold. Once you have the other ingredients ready, and trust me, this is such an easy, throw together salad, get the cold wedges on a plate, drizzle generously with the dressing, place the crumbled cheese and bacon all over, and top with the tomatoes.

A great salad that can stand on its own, but a even better salad served with a burger or steak.

Enjoy.
