Easy Homemade Turtles

It’s that time of year when I get suckered into making cookies for the kids. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not a big sweets guy and I pass up desserts all of the time. I rarely bake cakes, muffins, or cookies for that matter, but every now and then I do. This is the one of those times where I want to make something nice for the kids, well, because it is another way for me to express my love for them. This is one of those recipes where it doesn’t get any easier, and this dessert is so darn delicious. Pretzels, Rolo candy, and crushed pecans. Yep, and about 5 minutes of cook time.

Let’s get started.

Ingredients:

  • 54 Pretzel Snaps, the square one
  • 12 oz bag of Rolos, the bag has 54, I counted
  • 1 cup crushed pecans
  • Course salt, optional

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and preheat your oven to 300 degrees.

During this time, add the pretzels to the baking sheet. Top each pretzel with a Rolo. This is the only time consuming part, unwrapping the Rolos. Repeat until each pretzel had a rolo on top.

Place in the oven, and cook for about 3-5 minutes. Keep an eye on these as you only want the Rolo to slightly soften, not completely melt. Once they begin to soften, remove them from the oven, and sprinkle a bit of course salt onto each piece of chocolate.

Next, shower the baking sheet with the crushed pecans, making sure you lightly coat all of the chocolate.

I placed mine in my cold garage for about 20 minutes to let the Rolos harden up. Once hardened, place on a serving dish, and dig in.

Everyone went nuts for these. It’s a perfect bite with the crunch of the pretzel, and that awesome salted and chocolate caramel. All 54 were pretty much devoured in one day! Merry Christmas everyone!
